I have featured the creative duo behind Felix Furniture before, and are huge fans of their detailed custom furniture, and this space has now taken it to the next level! They have teamed up with Beeline Design, designers of the most beautiful furniture pieces, including a few of my favourites being the ‘Calypso Stool’ & ‘The Cuba Collection’ ( pictured below), the result of this collaborative space is beyond words!
What is The Makers Collective ?
The concept is a curated space showcasing both of their collections alongside a distinctive range of other Melbourne-made homewares. I called in the other day and was honestly taken back by the store, it is a considered space, where you have room to walk around and admire all the incredible pieces the ‘makers’ have on offer. Antonia was more than happy to share with me the special details of so may creatives within the store, some of which I was familiar with, and others I was yet to explore … and yes i talked her into sharing the space on my IG live!
The creative duo’s, Felix & Beeline, first met while exhibiting alongside one at a trade show not long ago, and knew that their furniture would work well together. “We found our styles were quite similar and that our pieces complimented one another really well.” Says Antonia Morrongiello from Felix Furniture. The two businesses have now joined forces to create Makers Collective in Richmond.
“Our vision for Makers Collective was to create a welcoming space that showcases some of the best local talent that Melbou rne has to offer.” says Lucy Grant from Beeline Design. “We wanted a space where we could not only display our respective ranges but also compliment them with great pieces from local brands we loved” Lucy continues.
The space takes on a ‘gallery feel’, something I adore within the space, exhibiting original prints from Love Your Space and artworks by Jessie Rigby … now her works are just incredible, who created a collection especially to compliment the furniture ranges. It also houses a mix of up-and-coming brands & more established brands such a; Rachel Bainbridge, Hide & Co leather goods, Capra resin pots, Soktas lighting, 3 Square cushions, Uim knitwear, and Luum pots.
“There are so many incredible local small business’ in Melbourne, we really wanted to be able to give them a platform where they are not competing with imported goods and really shine a spotlight on the amount of talent we have at our fingertips.” Antonia shares.
I absolutely love the space! Right in the heart of Bridge Road, Richmond, the store boasts a huge 4 metre ceiling with dusty blue paneling ( just beautiful) on one wall as well as a solid Victorian Ash countertop … tick! A lot of planning went into the new space, and by pooling all their skills in together, Antonia has an Interior Design background, Lucy a graphic designer and Adam and Ian both highly skilled furniture makers, the store renovations were knocked off in no time.
Take the time to visit this space if you are on the lookout for beautiful handmade furniture & unique homewares, you won’t find in the ‘big’ retail stores!
The Makers Collective Pop Up will be open at 134 Bridge Road Richmond until July.
